Choir Cantata at Conference 2016

Choir Cantata at Conference 2016

Oct 28, 2015

Throughout the history of the Christian community, choirs have often been used to aid the people of God in worship. Will you consider being a part of the 2016 Conference Choir at the Conference session in Houghton, NY?

Each evening, Sunday through Thursday, and on Sabbath morning, the 2016 Conference Choir will sit on the platform at Houghton College, Wesley Chapel for the beginning of Worship and then join the congregation just before the message. On Sabbath Eve (Friday evening at 7:00 pm) the Choir will present a Cantata, Testament of Praise: A Celebration of Faith. The anthem each evening and Sabbath Morning Worship will be taken from this work.

Joseph Martin was commissioned to compose this work. This commissioned work was inspired by the words of Charles Wesley in celebration of the hymn writer’s 300th birthday in 2007. Fresh and unique arrangements of timeless hymns are coupled with a set of narrations, litanies and suggested congregational songs to maximize the presentation. Celebrate the work of one of the most influential lyricists of all time with this special collection! The work includes: O, For a Thousand Tongues; Love Divine, All Love’s Excelling; Thanks for Our Every Blessing; Jesus, Lover of My Soul and more!

The 2016 Conference Choir is under the direction of Linda Lawton and accompanied by Charlotte Chroniger. The 2016 Conference Choir rehearsals are tentatively scheduled at 4:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and for about 1.5 hours on Friday afternoon.

Because this cantata performance is an outreach opportunity where musicians from the community will be invited to join in ministering and it will be heavily advertised, we need to be the most prepared Conference Choir as we get to the 2016 Conference Session. Would you do the following:

1. Purchase as an individual or a local choir, Testament of

Praise: a Celebration of Faith. The cost is $8.95 per copy.

2. Practice the work and maybe even perform it.

3. Know it to the point the music is second nature.

4. Pray through the music.

5. Pray that the Holy Spirit will use this to bring persons to the Faith.
